Blended Finance Model

Blended finance models rely on capital initially provided through public or philanthropic sources to attract private funders who receive financial return while the object of the financing, typically something related to sustainability, gets a boost from the multiple sources of capital. The Conservation Finance Alliance set up the Global Fund for Coral Reefs (GFCR) to "serve as a blended finance vehicle leveraging grants, debt and other financial instruments to facilitate private return-based investments for coral reef conservation and resilience." "The GFCR hopes to invest over $600 million dollars in coral reef conservation between 2020 - 2030."[1]
